Weight change is rarely a straight line. A period of similar readings can reflect fluid changes, measurement conditions or a change in the balance between intake and energy use. It does not prove that your metabolism is broken or that you lack willpower.
First, check what the trend shows
If weighing is useful and comfortable for you, use similar conditions and look across several weeks. A single day can be affected by digestive contents, salt, stored carbohydrate, menstrual changes or recent activity. Photos and waist measurements are optional; they are not necessary if they increase distress.
Review the practical details
- Have portion sizes or food records become less consistent?
- Are drinks, sauces and cooking fats included where relevant?
- Has daily movement changed?
- Are meals satisfying and nutritionally adequate?
- Have sleep, work demands, pain or medication changed?
- Is the goal still appropriate for your health and circumstances?
Choose a small adjustment
If tracking helps, review a few ordinary days without trying to make the record perfect. Check photo estimates against foods and quantities you know. Improve convenience or meal composition before assuming that the answer is less food.
A manageable movement break, a more regular lunch or an easier shopping plan may be useful. Change one thing at a time so you can evaluate it. A break from weight-loss efforts may be appropriate for some people, but it is not a guaranteed “metabolic reset”.
Use calculators as estimates
A lighter body may use less energy than before, but an online TDEE calculator is still only a starting estimate. It does not measure your metabolism or account for every medical factor.
When to get advice
Unintentional weight change, significant weakness, persistent fatigue, swelling or other new symptoms should be assessed. Do not increase restriction during pregnancy, breastfeeding, eating-disorder recovery or medication-dependent diabetes care without appropriate advice.
Avocado can help organise food records, but it cannot identify the medical cause of a plateau. See also why metabolism does not simply switch off.
